9:00 AM - 10:20 AM

The past year has seen a number of changes in the employment law arena.  Employers have felt the effects of new rules and requirements, as well as the uncertainty that comes with them.  From the delay of the wage and hour exemption rules to new regulations on substance-abuse testing, the workplace is more complex than ever.  This legal update will examine the old, the new and the ambiguity that exists in between.  As 2018 nears, this is a good opportunity for employers to examine what exists, what has changed, and what is coming for your organization and your workers

"The Role of Strategic Thinking in Business Planning"

presented by Caroline Trani, Small Business Development Center

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Strategy has never been more challenging or more important, than in today's competitive business environment. Many businesses get caught up in trying to be everything to everyone, stretching resources in markets that may never provide a worthwhile return on investment. Incorporating Strategic Thinking in a planning process allows for a more comprehensive planning model that applies innovation, strategic planning and operational planning, leading to business strategies that have a greater chance for success. Without Strategic Thinking a business risks making quick decisions that lack creativity and insight.  In this presentation you'll learn what Strategic Thinking is, why it's important and how to incorporate it in your business strategies through the role of planning.
